Worker’s compensation laws were established to protect employees who are injured on the job. Employees are put into a vulnerable position when performing tasks. If you are injured and unable to work, you are then financially laced into an even more vulnerable position.

Workmans compensation laws require that employers pay into insurance programs that will replace some of an employee’s wages if they are injured and unable to work. It is important that you understand how these programs work so that you can get the benefits you deserve if you are injured at work.

How Long Does It Last?

In the state of Utah, most worker’s compensation benefits can last up to 312 weeks. The length of the benefits will depend on which types of benefits you qualify for. A worker compensation attorney Utah will be able to give you further details on the length of benefits.

Workmans Compensation Requirements

If you are injured on the job, you are expected to submit a report as soon as possible after your injury. If you fail to submit the proper paperwork documenting your injury, it could interfere with your eligibility for benefits.

Be sure to keep good records of any doctor’s visits, medical treatments, medications, or other records connected with your injury. Your doctor will fill out a Physician’s Initial Report of Injury or Illness. This form should be completed and submitted within 7 days of your first medical visit.

It is required in the state of Utah that all employers have worker’s compensation insurance. If your employer tells you that they do not have this type of coverage, you should speak with a workmans compensation lawyer as soon as possible. There are some exceptions to this rule.
